December 6ths

I was in a store and they were playing a Christmas song to a Motown beat and I found that I could sing “You can’t hurry love” against it and fit in perfect counterpoint. What I thought was interesting was that eventually, people started to listen to lyrics, even years after hearing it for the first time. It adds another dimension to the whole listening experience.

Massive fire on 29th floor of 135 South LaSalle. Apparently, they had a venerated photography collection that was lost.

“Wright Angles”. The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, looking northwest. Since I like a very high contrast image, I darkened the shadows and dodged the highlights in the upstairs window.

When I got my first smartphone in 2007 I was absolutely fascinated with it, downloading many apps--primarily for taking photographs, but over the years it’s really waned. I just realized this morning I haven’t been using my phone that much except for very few apps. It has the same effect as any medium, including records. I stopped buying CDs in 1999 when Napster came on the scene. Even if things are free people aren’t using them. Everywhere you look there’s some kind of notification or news flash about nothing as important as it wants to be.
